Visiting Matamata College Marae

I enjoyed going to the marae, because we sang some waiata and ate some kai. I had a sweet cookie and a raspberry drink.  After we played some games, there was stilts, writing activities and taiaha.  Trinity

This morning in the fog we walked to Matamata College.  I enjoyed playing the activities with the college students.  Ethan

For our marae visit we started with a welcome which was short and sweet.  We all loved the refreshments, and the games after our refreshments. Ngaro

This excellent morning we went to Matamata College.  Firstly we had to walk on the footpath to get there.  When we got to the college we followed our boss Whaea Louise, while Whaea Nga was welcoming us on to the marae.  After we were welcomed we played traditional games.  It was so much fun, it was one of my favourite Firth school days.  Lynea

Going on the stilts was fun because I tried to stay on them and not fall off.  Damon

This morning we visited the massive Matamata College.  We firstly presented our greetings and then we had morning tea.  There was yummy fruit, delicious biscuits and a sweet drink.  After we ate we played some traditional games.  We played with stilts, drew the marae and played a passing game.
They were all very fun.  We then finished and performed a waiata to finish.  Then we went back to school.  Jordan

This morning we went to the College with other classes from Firth.  Some of the college students used to attend Firth Primary.  I enjoyed learning about the marae and I had to thank the whaea for hosting us.  Kiowa

"The hangi tasted real as!"  Nikora

The hangi tasted amazing.  Aliesha

Creative Owls.

We designed owls using newspaper, leaves, black paper and bark.  We layered the owls with strips of newspaper. We tried to locate coloured newspaper for different parts of the bird. We used dye to add extra colour.  The backgrounds are trees, we used bark and leaves to create the bush like effect.

I enjoyed looking through the newspapers for all the types of green.  Ngaro

I enjoyed putting all the bits together, and adding the dye.  Trinity

I liked searching for the right types and shapes of bark to create my tree.  Lynea

I think my owl is very colourful, I like the fruit mask.  It has a very funny name, 'Fruit Bandit.'

Welcome to 2014!

Welcome to Room 6's blog.

I would like to take a couple of moments to say thank you for sending your child to school ready to learn.
We have made a busy start to the year taking photos of our class peers and ourselves.
